The Haight got its farewell soundtrack on this day in 1968 when the Grateful Dead climbed onto a flatbed truck and sang their goodbyes. Opening with an epic rendition of “Viola Lee Blues,” they packed five songs into their goodbye as frenzied locals shut down the block to enjoy each tune.
